The book located at the URL above taught me to leave my body through relaxation techniques(Hence the username "Astral")
I'm also a Pagan Witch, so I've added a couple of other little methods of protection while I'm "out". However these are not required
to have safe, happy OBEs.
My point(I knew I'd get to it sooner or later) is that while 'out' I have learned to conciously modify my astral form(mostly through the
affirmation that the astral body is a non-solid shifting substance) to be my Fursona(A striped skunk)
The only odd effect I have noticed, is that I often miss my tail. or feel it randomly, like that "phantom limb thing" Amputees get.
I find it incredible to have actually walked as a furry, and I was deleiriously happy for around a month following my discovery.
Although on the other hand, it make me kinda sad that I'll never walk as one physically...
I'm not trying to change anyone's religion. As I said, I'm Pagan, and the writer of the book I've linked is(or was) a catholic. OBE's trancsend religion in all it's forms, as OBE's appear in one shape or form for them all.

Well, i dunno if I should label it under astral projection, but I have done a mental shapeshift where I feel my animal body walking along with mine if that makes sense.(I feel both bodies and both minds of the seperate forms) But it can be tricky because I have to make sure to keep both "minds" balanced so I don't go fully into just one (back to fully human ruins it but fully animal & I can cause some problems *cough cough* As it has almost happened)
I always feel phantom limbs too It's cool but they can sometimes get in the way & cause some personal confusion like if someone steps on my "tail" or if I gesture with my "wings"
(Dragon/wolf/thylacine at different instances respectively)
So yes I will surely give this a read!  Thank you for sharing!!!

I can imagine... 
Today I learned the english teacher I had was Pagan too... small(or expanding) world.
