What is the reason why furries are hated on the internet?

I always wanted to ask this because I don't exactly know what started all this hate.

I wasn't a part in the fandom when this happened, but I think it started with an MTV show back in 2001. As far as I can tell, this show started most of the stereotypes and thrust furries into the spotlight at the same time.

After this people found that if you poke a furry, they'll squirm.

Trolling is all about getting a response, and whenever anyone mentioned sex around a fur, the fur would get angry or start whining. That's really the only reason we're trolled, because it's fun.

If we didn't squirm, the trolls would have moved on ages ago, but as long as we react there will be trolls.

I have to agree... though it really does piss me off. I just have this thing against being stereotyped, but people do it all the time.

Shoot, none of this pisses me off because I rarely care much of the fandom and I had worst said to me and not react to it. Why don't furries NOT react at all?

They react because they think that well thought out arguments can appeal to, what they think is, a misguided person who just got the wrong message. They don't know what being trolled is, or that it's happeneing to them, so they approch the problem with a sense of "hey I can change their minds, they're people and people are good so they'll understand =D" sort of look..

at least, seems that way to me.

I've dealt with people who actually do believe that stuff about furries. It's not all just trolling.

I feel it's mostly the sick fucked up art & stories people put out there.

(yes you all know me & Tecoon used to be pretty open about sex but I now realize that was a BAD thing to do)

I'm sorry but some of what I see out there really does make us look like mentally disturbed perverts.
