Well kids, I just watched Bolt; it's time for a movie review.
I've been meaning to see this movie for a while, but since it first came out It has had bad reviews, so I decided to save my $10 and wait till it came out on video. While I must say it wasn't all bad, I can see where those reviews are coming from.
The movie is about this dog, Bolt, who is a superhero on a TV show. The only thing is, he doesn't know he's on TV. The director is somewhat crazy, and believes that Bolt gives a deeper performance believing everything he does is real, and thus Bolt has never been off the set or interacted with anyone other than the actors. So, Bolt get's quite the slap in face when he escapes and is accidentally shipped to New York. You wind up with a dog who thinks he has super powers having to cross the country to get home. Basically the same plot used in every Disney movie with talking animals ever has been recycled yet again.
I am going to critique this pretending the two halves were entirely different movies, since that is exactly what it felt like.
In the first half, even though it was almost a clone of other movies, the story was well told. I was never bored with it, the characters were well done with some very good voice acting (all except Mylie Cyrus' character, "Penny", who is annoying, awkward, and just seems to interrupt the action. Stupid Humans), and, once the comic relief character is introduced, quite funny, too. Actually, Rhino the hamster may have been the reason the story didn't irk me too much. It has been a long, long time since I have seen a well done comic relief character, but Timon and Pumbaa are going to have to move over; there's a new member of the club.
I give the first half three and a half fish out of a possible five.
Then, after a painfully long montage, we enter the second half (dun dun dun!)
In the second half, since it was almost a clone of other movies, the story was a giant cliche. I was never wondering what would happen next, the characters were horribly done with some very bored sounding voice actors (all except Mylie Cyrus' character, "Penny", who actually shows some emotion), and, since the comic relief character pretty much disappears, generally just plain annoying. Even for the parts he was in, Rhino the hamster seemed to turn his back on the club and flip Timon and Pumbaa the bird so he could hang with the hugely vast majority of completely useless comic relief.
I give the second half of Bolt a half fish out of five.
All in all, I give Bolt two and a half fish. You should go rent it, but if the movie explodes when the montage starts, it was actually probably a good thing. _________________
Me & Tecoon saw it when it was release in theaters but stupid me I didn't make a post about it
Anyway we adored it! (especially Rhino! He is awesome! One of the best characters in a long time! ) Also my first dog was a white shephard/wolf mix & looked similar to Bolt.
We also loved Mittens. We thought it was horrible that she was abandoned (& even rejected for free food! aw!) Because as you may know, Tecoon is a MAJOR cat person so he would instantly care for a needy cat over a dog any day lol _________________ I'm a white thylacine with turqoise stripes, eyes, & hair.
Just saw UP! It was pretty awesome, and at times very sad. Check it out if you get a chance... _________________ Hamsters for life!

ok, Fantastic Mr. Fox was one of my fave books as a kid. And I may be lynched for this but......this movie adaptation looks horrible.
1- although I enjoy claymation, I can tell this one was done very poorly. Looks like it's from the 70s/80s before it became smooth. The animation just looks bad & I hate to say it but the puppets don't look very well done either =(
2- This may be a shock coming from my mouth, but the characters are TOO anthro *listens to gasps & feinting*
ok ok, I know, I am an anthro & I LOVE anthro art...BUT! The book I read was NOT this anthro. It was only semi. The characters DID NOT wear clothes, DID NOT live like humans with jobs & equipment. They were anthro only in the point that they spoke, had SIMPLE human home features in their dens (chairs, tables, etc) & not freaking chemistry sets. This film is taking it way out of acceptability from the book
3- It looks like a freaking james bond spy operation! Since when did THAT happen? All they were doing was very cleverly digging tunnels to the farmhouses to get food. Not lacing berrys with sleeping pills, wearing ski masks & popping out of the sewers into security, or all that weird struff
Ok that being said, I still may give this film a chance just to support the furry/anthro community....but so far, it looks like this will be very dissapointing
Again this is just my opinion DOn't take my word for it to the point you don't see the film _________________ I'm a white thylacine with turqoise stripes, eyes, & hair.
Well, what movie is ever like the book it was adapted from? I think it will be okay. The one thing I don't get, however, is how they could all be anthro, while the beagle isn't. It's feral in reverse which doesn't make any sense.
