Furry books/novels?

I love reading, and I've been looking for a good book that was written specifically for furs. Seen or heard of one? Tell me!! Please. Seriously. ((if it's story on the net, that's fine, but I'm looking for a book that's available at Waldenbook's or Barnes & Noble. Preferably.))
Graci. <3
mythosloki

Ok... Brian Jacques' Redwall series, William Horwood's Wolves of Time, Richard Adam's works (Watership Down) Garry Kilworth's Foxes of FirstDark, Kij Johnson's Fox Woman.... Kyell Gold's Volle and Pendant of Fortune (Sofawolf Press) yiff heavy... Then I have a novel in progress that may be published... eventually
Ginny

Hmm...I've read Jacques and Adam...but I'll have to look up the others. And good luck with your novel Smile
Thanks very much! More are welcome to post. And, I myself have some ^_^
The Sight is a very good wolf book. I forget the author...@_@ I'll put it on here later, I guess.
mythosloki

No problem. You should hopefully be able to get Foxes of Firstdark from your library (I did) it is also known in paperback version as Hunter's Moon. Horwood's are a bit harder, but you should be able to get them off of the Barnes and Noble site or Borders... both books and Kilworth's are unfortunately out of print, but fairly easy to get your paws on. They are worth it too...
Ginny

Hunter's Moon...? Read it...but that was a fairy book...not really furry. Or so I though. I'll check again, I guess...O_o
Okkies, I'll check my library for Wolves in Time, since my library has a lot of older and rare books. ((It's annoying when there's a new book out I want to read; they have to get all the branches in the county to agree, then take a month to buy it O_o rrg))

I am a Red Wall fan my self. And have most from that set.
O and get Gon it is a bout a little T-REX of sorts. Little on words but a
good one. I do beleave he was an unlockable In Teken 4.
Comics many of them out there Like Katmandu, Extinctioners, Furrlough,
and the verry yiffy GENUS.

One book I am reading now is called FURRY! The World's Best
Anthropomorphic Fiction!
Well, the name says it all. It is a collection of short stories. My suggestion
on this is get it! It is a must read. You will not be disappointed. Just Get It!
Every story gets a little better. And I could not stop talking about them to
my friends. A warning some content all though not full out yiffy many are
what I would call adult content do to the subject mater. They are not like
a Red Wall story. Well all of this will give you a start and many other
refrences though them.
Ginny

yay Smile
I don't particularly like Redwall...they're not very realistic characters. Brian Jacques just annoys me. Sorry. It's an ok series, though.

Take a look at "Lives of the Monster Dogs" by Kristen Bakis.
Though not 100% "furry" it's about a tribe of dogs bred & genetically/surgically altered to stand upright, speak, wear clothes, & have hands. A bit disturbing but a wonderful book!
Ginny

XD I like slightly disturbing things.
Sarafina

Me too! Wink
(I LOVE the books Watership Down & Plague Dogs. Both are disturbing/sad but still good)
Ginny

...
Watership Down, the movie, made me cry.
Sarafina

If WD made you cry, Plague Dogs will make you cry and then want to kill humans O_O
Ginny

XD
Wow. Nice.
*makes note to get to library ASAP*
Sarafina

oh, I should mention that TPD was HEAVILY edited by USA censors. The original UK version is rare but there's several sites where you can see the deleted material (& you can buy the uncut version in Australia)
Ginny

Rrrg...I went to my library yesterday, and it didn't have even one of them.
I'm gonna check the larger city branch.

BTW, Wolf Rising was an incredible book. It's more werewolf than furry, but it's furry-flavored :3
G-Fox

Lives of the Monster Dogs A? Well, from what you say. I should get it. Sound like my kind of story.
Medic

Animal Farm
The rats of NIMH
REDWALL!!! Ah, the memories... n.n
Scarlets Web
The Seventh Tower
Anatole
Basil of Baker Street
So ya there are some books. But the only book I REALLY liked was one I could not reamber. It was about rats(or mice) in a lab. How they got out- (some of them.)

Ginny

Medic

Hey, I just read a book called The Plague Dogs. It's a sad story- but a good one! Thanks Sarafina for making that one thread about it! Yet I can't find it anymore..

Snitter you crazy dog! Real crazy, none of that fake "just for fun I like pastry goods" crazy that many try to copy. Rowf, he always seemed angry- cant blame him for that.
Wished the Tod never died, the whole times I was waiting for Snitter to jump out and blast them with something from his head, never happened. (That accent was amazing!)

Not quite the same as Watership Down, however I do think that is what sets it apart as a book. Hurray for books! -read faster, now!
Sarafina

Medic, to see the film, go to my movies thread Smile

http://zfurry.myfastforum.org/about254.html

listed several links ^_^

(I'm also considering posting a link to the film "felidae" but it's so graphic I don't think it's apppropriate)
G-Fox

Sarafina, I had seen a little of Plague Dogs on YouTube. Holy! F$%636#!
Yes, that was sad and disturbing. No one with a week constitution should see this. Nor the beginning of one new movie. If you found Plague Dogs just to disturbing. Do not see it. It still makes me of all! people shaky just thinking about it. It showed live footage like what I seen on the YouTube of Plague Dogs only much worse, of people beating animals, skinning them alive hitting them or stepping on there head or neck when the wined, just to do it. Not always enough to kill it. If so it was done slowly. There was one seen with an animal looking like in a daze. My dad thought it was a seal. I told him that was a dog skinned and very much alive and in so much pain it could not think of anything but the pain.
Scenes with people handling raccoons. Slamming them agents the ground over and over till dead.
Absolute unbelievable cruelty until you see it. I suggest not to, unless you wont to find yourself shaking every time you think of it, like I am now.
And I have seen my share of things. Hell I find myself laughing during movies like Hanable, Hostel, Hellraser, Saw. They do not bother me. some of them I find funny. Even the disturbing parts.
The beginning of this one bothered me a grate deal. The movie I speak of is SEED. The rest of the movie is OK. A typical horror movie. Along the line of those above. But this Part THIS PART! will have you looking at people with a new seance of disgust and horror. I only tell you of this to worn you all not to see it. If you do there is supposedly something redeeming about the footage being placed in the film. There is a web site mentioned in it likely as far as I can tell that fights agents such things and tries to raise awareness and support. See it it you wish but be warned.

I know a little off subject for books but the subject on Plague Dogs brought this horrible thing up.

People that can do such to animals I could with no remorse chain them down in the desert and let things take it's coarse. I would even watch with uncaring unsympathetic eyes as the sun and bugs have there way with them. Hell I may even occasionally toss some water or vinegar on them to prolong or intensify the agony as it commences. If I knew how to find these people and could get away with it I would. With grate pleasure and much satisfaction. Twisted Evil Such people deserve no less in my eyes. Evil or Very Mad If you where to see it, I have no doubt even despite ones own religion you would agree hole heartedly. I may be to some extent evil but these people are cruel to a T. No animal should suffer like this especially by human hands.

Sorry about the rant had to get it off my chest. -.-

At times like this I wish a prayer would help. This is the difficulty in not being religious. Some say I am not because it is easy. I say it is not. Who do you turn to when you wont something like this to stop and you as one person feel powerless to do anything about it, and know not only other people can't stop it but are responsible for it. It saddens me to think nothing can be done to fully stop this. Even with the best of group intentions.
It would take a power grater then just people to do so. With something like this. Awareness and support is fine, but it will only help. Not stop or heal the problem. It would persist like an unfounded illness. Not having one to turn to, one you feel could help, is hard. I guess one just has to continue to harden ones self in the face of such, accept things as they are, and carry on knowing the enevatable of what people unstopped are doing day after day to these animals and each other for that mater. Crying or Very sad
rrrrrrrr. now I am just angry. Mad What is wrong with people!  Sad

I'll keep this short since it is quite off topic

While I've never seen Seed, I have seen a video that is very close to what you described, G-Fox, and I completely agree with what you said.

I was considering posting a link for other people, but I decided against it. Trust me when I say you do not want to see it.
Sarafina

a bit off topic. But yes please NEVER post a link to ANYTHING of that nature. Part of the reason I've tried suicide in the past was because of the knowledge that things like that happen (& yes I agree with you 100% G-Fox)

ok back on topic all
Medic

(I would like to discuss my hatred of those sorts of bastards just like many of us but this is a topic of books!  Very well put, as always, G-Fox.)

I checked out The Sight and Fell.  They were interesting, but my only complaint was how they kept talking about "the destruction and evil of man" and all that.  On the + side, it was great how it went into the culture of wolves, really made them stand out.  (The slika, ah I forgot what it's called..   My favorite character in the book!)

Recently I've stumbled across a book called Journey to the West.  It's extremely thick with Chinese lore and culture, which is nice if you've never read a book in that style and want a change of pace.  (Or you can read one about a vampire in love with a werewolf in highschool!)  The main character is, well.. A monkey, who is all WHOA-SHAAAH! if you know what I mean.  Story has alot of furry characters in it, but I believe that's mainly due to the folklore then actual plot device- yet it still makes up a large part of the novel.       Magic monkey somersault cloud away!
Burn

The Sight and Fell are definitely two of my favorite books, and I'm not saying this from a furry standpoint. I've recommended these books to non-furry friends of mine, and they love them too. They are beautifully written, and I love the depth of the characters and lore that Clement-Davis goes into. I also liked the twist at the end of Fell. I won't ruin it if you haven't read it yet, but be prepared. It might not be of 'Fight Club' caliber, but it's still good.

As for the "human's are evil" side to the stories (and I'm talking more of The Sight than Fell here), it may go quite far, but sadly it's true. I could point you to many references that show how wolves were thought to be evil and extensively hunted and killed. I've even seen a few sites that are still adamantly for hunting and controlling their population today.

I've just started reading David Clement-Davies other book, Firebringer. I think someone already mentioned it, but basically from what I've read so far its the same kind of setting as The Sight (dangerously oppressive and cruel "government") but with deer. So far it's very good, and could put Mr. Clemet-Davies three-for-three on my favorites list.
